It’s been awhile since I penned a commitment report, but that’s not to say there’s nothing going on. Despite our busy travel schedule these last couple months, I still manage to get work done on the road. That’s the thing though, most of it winds up being work, and I haven’t had as much time to devote to my fiction. That is changing now that I’ve got my laptop. Merry Xmas to me and a big thank you to James for that.
I just finished recording episode 16 of Goblin Market and have half the edits done. I hope to have it finished by Monday evening or Tuesday afternoon, so if you’ve been anxiously awaiting a new episode, it’s coming, I promise. For those of you discouraged by the infrequency of episode releases this last two months, I do apologize. While one should never make excuses, and own up to their misgivings, unfortunately I have no control over my computer problems. My eight year old dell hard drive took a huge dive about a month ago, and it was all I could do to hold it together just to get my daily work and writing done. Recording was next to impossible, and the sound quality was suffering nearly as bad as when I needed a new mic. Of course, all of the traveling we need to do right now has also gotten in the way, but at least I’ve got my priorities straight. My family and loved ones come first, always.
I am also working on Running Down the Moon, though slowly as I have to work my way back into the plot. I hate when you take a long break from a piece of work, and you find yourself combing through it to pick up the thread again, but I am committed to finishing this novel. My tentative goal is to have draft one completed by the end of January, so wish me luck. It’s feasible, but we’re prepping to do some holiday traveling again, and this time I’ll have Ye Olde Squeenager with me. I’m looking forward to having a nice, quiet holiday up north. James and I both have to work quite a bit surrounding the holiday, but at least we have Christmas Eve and Day off.
I know sometimes when I blog about work getting in the way of personal writing, it might seem like I’m a little down on my work. Nothing could be further from the truth. I love freelancing. It gives me the flexibility of deciding when and where I work, and whether I even want to get dressed for the day. I am also working incredibly hard to take care of myself, my daughter and the future James and I are building together. We have a visa to apply for, a wedding to plan, a home to move into and a big fat spending spree at IKEA on the mental list. Being able to earn all the things I need through freelancing gives me a sense of independence and pride that no other job has ever done. I just wanted to share that.
Anyway, I’m off to get some writing done before I scramble off in search of nachos. I hope that you’re all out there keeping to your self-commitments. You deserve to be good to yourself.
