Those of you who know me or have been following my blog already know that I earn 100% of my income freelance writing. That means I get up every day, discipline myself to sit down at my desk and produce content to submit it to the companies I am contracted to. After my articles go live, I tweet, facebook, digg and even blog about them, asking people to pop over and check them out. Sometimes people do and sometimes they don’t, and while I know I can’t expect everyone to drop their whole life to comment on my articles, comments and actual visits are essential to a successful freelance writer’s career.
Why? I don’t work a lot of revenue share jobs, but the few that I do generate income based on the number of page clicks, subscribers to my column and comments I receive on my articles. On jobs where I earn a flat rate, getting comments and page views shows the editors that the content I produce is valuable to the site, in turn keeping me on staff.
Freelance writing is a tough, competitive gig, but I love doing it. I appreciate everyone who takes the time to show their support, and hope I can continue to count on it as my career continues to unfold.
