Well, needless to say, this last week has not been very productive. Since Sunday, I’ve managed to squeeze out about 1200 words on Running Down the Moon, and reached 3000 words on the short story I’ve been writing for Nobilis Erotica, when I realized that I wasn’t even halfway through the plot.
Boo. That means it would end up being closer to novella length, than short story when it was done, and far too long. So, now I am a week from deadline on that project, and going back to the beginning to start over on an entirely new story. I do work well under pressure, so I have high hopes. Now I just need a plot. 0_o I have a couple of ideas, it’s just a matter of narrowing them down to one I can finish in 3000 or so words. Send juju.
I have also been a little under the weather, which is the main reason I haven’t done this week’s episode of Goblin Market yet. I have it all ready to record and edit, but my throat has been dry and sore from coughing, and reading it just hasn’t felt very appealing. I will get at least one more episode out before I head up north to Toronto on the 24th, and it’s a loooooooooong episode, so I hope it’ll be enough to tide ya’ll over for the turkey season. The story itself will be winding down, there are less than ten episodes left, and while I do enjoy podcasting the story and getting your feedback and encouragement, I will be glad when I have all of the episodes recorded and I can focus my energy on other projects.
I am happy with my progress on Running Down the Moon, despite being disappointed in not being where I had hoped to be by now, but on the other hand, that is what long writing purges are for. I know that if I set my mind to it, map out a few minor things to keep me on track and get to the writing, I can catch up in a day or two, and be back on track again. I will finish NaNoWriMo this year. Oh Yes. I will. I am determined, and while I know the first draft of such a hurried project isn’t going to be worth much of anything until it gets a good second pass, some workshopping and a third draft rewrite, it’ll feel good to complete a novel. It’s been a long time since I finished a novel-length work. I’m looking forward to it.
Since I am heading up to Toronto during Thanksgiving week, I will have a lot of time to get some major writing done while James is at work, and once I get my own work done for the day. That doesn’t mean I’m going to hold out until I get there, however. Oh no. I plan to get a ton of writing done in the next twelve days, and would love to end November with 60,000 words rather than 50,000. We shall see how it all pans out.
On that note, I have work to do so I can get to the writing. So much to write, some days, and just enough time to get it all done. The White Rabbit’s got nothing on me, though I could learn a thing or two from Willy Wonka, I suppose.
I hope everyone who is committed to themselves is staying on track with their commitments. I know it isn’t easy, especially when the holidays roll around, and the weather changes and we find ourselves feeling a little sick and tired. The good news is, colder weather (for some of us,) is a great excuse to stay indoors and get some writing done. I know what I’ll be doing this winter. How about you?

Well, I’ve been hit by some nasty virus, so I’m behind where I ought to be on NaNo (and everything else), but I’m making progress, however slow. I’ve high hopes for catching up later in the month.
Juju sent!
I’m so glad you’re doing NaNo this year.
I started to, but quickly realized that the extra typing is not good for my hand just yet. I’m still in physical therapy. Things are getting better, but with as slow as the progress is, it could still be months until I have full use of it again.
Needless to say, I’m upset about the change of plans. I was really looking forward to doing something for myself for a change and I can’t. I’ve missed my creative writing, but I can’t force myself to write that much extra and permanently damage my hand.
I can say this, this injury has shown me just how important our hands are to our craft. We may not sculpt art out of clay, or draw pictures with pencil, but our hands still help to create works of art in their own right. When the use of one is taken almost entirely away, you realize just how much you depended on both of them.
Here’s to next year and doing something for me.
