    Commitment Report Vol XV

Ahhh, this weekend has been jampacked with goodness, but I won’t lie. It’s been incredibly busy because of that. On Friday, I was on track with my NaNo wordcount, but after driving into Rochester to pick up James early Saturday morning, we wound up sleeping much of yesterday. When we did finally get around, the very thought of writing expended far more energy than I had in me. I know… Bad.

Today I cooked a huge holiday dinner for the family. We were up at 6 AM, and I was in the kitchen kicking culinary ass by 7:30. In between, I also worked. A girl’s gotta earn a living, and though I wanted to just blow off work completely, I couldn’t. I did manage to kick out about 1000 words tonight, which as me just under where I need to be to stay on track with NaNo, but I’m not complaining. I will catch up tomorrow.

At present, my total NaNo word count since last Sunday is 11,121 words. Overall word count on Running Down the Moon: 24218. I am aiming for about 75,000 words to wrap up the novel, so I’m just about 1/3 of the way there. I’m excited about that. I just started a little over five weeks ago, so that’s not bad. Yes, it could be better, but the important thing is that I’m staying committed even when the going gets tough. I had a scene tonight that I know for a fact is going to need some serious rewriting and polish when all is said and done, but I was proud of myself. I let it go and moved on, because that is what NaNo is all about. Getting the story out of your head and onto the paper/screen. I guess it should always be like that. Whether you’re writing for NaNo or not, because if you don’t get the story out as it’s flowing, it will get stuck, and you will give up.

I’m off to updated my wordmeter. I hope that whatever you are committed to, you’re holding up your end of the bargain with yourself. Keep up the good work. You deserve to treat yourself right!

Thought you weren’t doing NaNo this year? I didn’t even try because I know I’d never make it with an 11 month old running about.
